NOTABLE WORK:
1. “Tracy Foster: Mom on a Mission”

I produced this video in December 2010. This story and other work I’ve done inspired a producer from NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams to do a story on Tracy Foster and her family in NBC’s “Making A Difference segment.”

Tracy Foster is the founder of Project Being There, a non profit organization which aids orphanages in Vietnam. She is the mother of three adopted children from Vietnam. With the help of volunteers, the Foster family’s grass roots organization is based out of Knoxville, TN. She was featured on NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams in June 2011 on the “Making a Difference” segment and MSNBC with Chris Jansing.

Tracy Foster is a working mom who simply wanted to do more. This is her story.

2.) Black Friday in Knoxville
Black Friday from Linda Nguyen on Vimeo.

While many Knoxville residents tonight are resting tonight after Thanksgiving festivities, other people are already out taking advantage of holiday sales.

3.) Student stress solutions at UT

Student stress solutions at UT from Linda Nguyen on Vimeo.

Students at the University of Tennessee often have to balance their personal lives with part time jobs in addition to the stress of school work. How do they handle these demands? In this piece, I report on the various outlets located on campus that provide help to students dealing with depression and stress.

1.) Inside the beats of Swiperboy Entertainment

Published August 6, 2010.

Swiperboy Entertainment (SBE) is a group of college students who are determined to make it big in the hip hop community. They call themselves the “College Young Money” and balance school, work, athletics, in addition to music.

But where did they come from?

Renaldo Woolridge (stage name “Swiperboy”), a junior at the University of Tennessee and basketball player, is the founding member of the SBE family. In early 2009, Swiperboy began making mixtapes and showcased his talent on Youtube. Since then, his fanbase has grown exceptionally on Facebook, MySpace and Twitter. His YouTube page has over 500,000 views. As a result of this success, Swiperboy decided to expand his brand and founded his own independent music label in late 2009.

Swiperboy Entertainment. Swiperboy’s crew includes: Mike Wright (stage name “Mike iDive”), a senior in Fine Arts at UT and diver, Matt Wegzyn (stage name “DJ Wegz”), a junior at UT and football player, Afam Ibekwe (stage name “Kinga Dujungo KD”), a junior at Santa Monica College, Quentin Young (stage name “Yung Q”), a junior at Roane State, and Cait McMahan (stage name “Babi Mac”), a former Lady Vol and UT graduate.

2. ) Bonnaroo 2010 coverage

During the summer of 2010,  I had the wonderful opportunity of joining the Knoxnews/Knoxville.com Bonnaroo team. I wrote a series of blog-like stories, posted videos and created photo galleries for each day of the festival:

- Ten reasons why Bonnaroo is another planet

- Nine shows in nine hours: An intern’s guide to rocking your face off

- Lessons from Bonnaroo

- Bonnaroo crates home for imposters (photo gallery)

I have worked for the Tennessee Journalist (TNJN.com) for three semesters as a general reporter, editor, assistant operations editor and video editor.

- Local nonprofit works to aid orphanages in Vietnam

Inspired a producer from NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams to produce their own segment of the Foster family’s story on NBC’s “Making a Difference.”

- Thousands turn up for ‘New Moon’ premiere in Knoxville

Received the 2009 Best Online Reporting Award from the East Tennessee chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ). This story is also the number one visited article in the history of TNJN.com

- Parking: A horror story

Parking on campus has been a huge issue for many students, but this semester was particularly ridiculous. In this commentary, I address the issue of parking from a personal experience which resulted in a $200 parking ticket.
