I went to the wedding of my childhood best friend
I went to the wedding of my childhood best friend Sarah on Saturday. She got married at the gazebo at the Rose Center in Morristown. The ceremony was beautiful.
The reception was quite lovely as well, and I’m so thankful I dragged along my high school best guy friend L, who was a total sport the entire time.
I am thinking about dedicating my first novel to L, who has spent hours upon hours listening to complain about my life, career, love and pursuit of happiness. That and the fact that he promised he’d marry me if we’re both 35 years old and unmarried ahahahaha.
This is the card I made for Sarah’s wedding. I used a picture from WeLovePictures, a wedding photography blog in South Africa. I promise I’m not mass producing their material, so I hope they don’t mind.
I just wanted her to have something special and this photo was so perfect.
“Winter Song” – Sara Bareilles, Ingrid Michaelson
This is my winter song to you.
The storm is coming soon,
it rolls in from the sea
My voice; a beacon in the night.
My words will be your light,
to carry you to me.
Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love
They say that things just cannot grow
beneath the winter snow,
or so I have been told.
They say were buried far,
just like a distant star
I simply cannot hold.
Fashion Post – Menswear inspired accessories
I don’t do fashion posts that often, but I thought it would be fun to start commenting on recent trends that I’ve noticed. Also, I’ve been messing around with my camera’s self timer lately, so it’s a good excuse to share those pictures!
I have recently been obsessed with accessories, specifically menswear inspired hats, belts, t-shirts, etc. Also, browns and blues–not sure why.

I think I just like the idea of making menswear feminine with typically female accessories like fun flats, jewelry (bangles, stud ear rings and long pendant necklaces).
I had a Groupon store credit for $20 that I bought awhile back for only $10. It expires at the end of the month.
I didn’t anticipate buying the green shirt, but because the accessories were on all sale, I was about $2 short of the $20 minimum limit to use the coupon.
I was really lucky shopping at Old Navy and made it out of the store with a pretty nice haul only spending $5.

Photoshoot opportunity: I got a new hat
WENT SHOPPING THE OTHER DAY
With L (who is the closest thing I have to a guy best friend nowadays). We went to Old Navy and I found a really fun vintage-inspired straw hat in the men’s section on sale for about $12. I thought, “Wow, what a deal!”
THEN,
We went over to The Gap (L’s favorite store) and I found higher quality version of the same hat (featured in the picture) in the men’s section (as well) on sale for only $8 (with an additional 25% off clearance items)! So, I bought that, too.
AND FINALLY,
We headed over to Forever21 to see if I could find any similar hats (men inspired hats in a female store). And of course, I did. But they were not on sale: about $12-$15
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
Guys clearly are not liking this trend. Meanwhile, girls eat it up and continue dressing like boys (see above).
If Harry Potter was an anime
My friend Logan passed this on to me.
And I think this is probably the coolest thing I have ever seen. I think I laughed for about 10 minutes seeing Lily and James Potter in a ghosty light. Oh, and of course Professor Snape laying on a BED OF LILIES (lol get it) </geek>
Deactivated

STUFF I DID TODAY
1. Deactivated my Facebook (for the time being)
2. Swore off men forever
3. Straightened my hair
4. Introduced someone to my love for Gone With The Wind and Cold Mountain
5. Had clam chowder for lunch (delicious)
R.I.P. Amy Winehouse (1983-2011)
Such a tragedy. The wonderfully talented Amy Winehouse passed away in her London flat at age 27.
I was eagerly awaiting her comeback. Love her soulful music.
He walks away,
The sun goes down,
He takes the day but I’m grown,
And there’s no way, in this blue shape,
My tears dry on their own,
I don’t understand,
Why do I stress A man,
When there’s so many bigger things at hand,
We could a never had it all,
We had to hit a wall,
So this is inevitable withdrawal,
Even if I stop wanting you,
A Perspective pushes true,
I’ll be some next man’s other woman soon
A New York Times Marriage Proposal
Just read a beautiful piece in the NY Times Modern Love section (of course) where a woman proposes to her domestic partner.
This story was featured in support of the New York Times’ Gay Marriage special edition.
And yes, just in case you were wondering, as a journalist, this is my dream proposal.
Now, before you get all nauseated, let me be honest: It’s just so fitting.
Take from Tumblr: Fun Photography

I am not an active Tumblr writer (mostly because I keep up with 2 WordPress blogs on a daily basis), but I really do enjoy flipping through Tumblr every now and then.
And more often than not, I am just in awe of some of the photography that people post and repost.
The whole idea of Tumblr is a really beautiful thing. What’s not to love about sharing art?
Makes me all warm inside.

Eric Shaw and saying how we feel out loud
Discovered a new writer through Tumblr the other day.
Eric Shaw is a 24-year-old young writer who posts his poetry and prose through screencaps on Tumblr and Flickr.
I know it’s probably a little hipster and not everyone’s cup of tea, but what’s great about this style–is this idea that you just blurt out your feelings on paper. You write how you feel.
Obviously, this might generally appeal to young angsty girls who have had their hearts broken, but it somehow works.
3% of the time
I am a very optimistic person.
And I like to think that 97% of the time, I am generally happy and satisfied with everything that’s going on in my young life.
But sometimes, I get a little low. And things are just a little more difficult to deal.
About 3% of the time, I have a harder time being optimistic.
Something wrong with me or is this normal?

Mischief managed.
Is Age Nothing But A Number?
You may have already heard this story: A pretty successful film and TV star in Hollywood man marries a beautiful younger woman.
But have you heard this story? A pretty successful film and TV star in Hollywood marries a beautiful 16-year-old…woman?
Say, what?
I first caught the news on GossipCop and then People Magazine. Then, ABC News got an interview and you heard from their very own mouths:
“We’re in love,” and “It was perfectly legal.”
And my very favorite–”Despite her provocative looks, she is a very Christian girl.”
Honestly, would Aayliah agree?
I’M THE FIRST TO ADMIT
I’m a bit of an ageist. When I was in college, I had a pretty hard time thinking I would be able to date anyone than a couple of years older than me. I even had a huge fight with my best friend when she decided to date an older guy (I apologized, she gave me a second chance, we made up, I realized he makes her happier than any other person could regardless of age, and I got over it).
But I realized that my problem doesn’t really have to do with the number. It has to do with the level of maturity of a person. I have friends who are in their early 20′s who are more responsible than some people I know in their early 30′s.
BUT NOW THAT I’M OUT OF COLLEGE,
My perspective has changed. Do I really have anything in common with a 21-year-old guy? Probably not. A lot of 21-year-old men I know are still in school, unemployed, not motivated or simply too immature–qualities that I absolutely can’t stand.
EVERYONE’S UPSET ABOUT IT
According to the interview, Doug Hutchinson’s manager and agent have dropped him. Even his mother refuses to speak to him–which is interesting considering Stodden’s parents are the ones who happily consented and signed their marriage license.
SO HOW DOES THIS NON-TRADITIONAL COUPLE DO IT?
So how do Doug Hutchinson and Courtney Stodden make it work? What do they have in common?
He is a relatively successful film star, and she is an aspiring singer/actress with only a handful of god-awful YouTube videos.
Courtney Stodden claims she is an “old soul.” This may be true, perhaps she is more mature than most 16-year-old girls. But how old doe she think she is?
If she was 20-something, she’d have a real job. If she was 30-something, she’d have an idea about her career. If she was 40, she would probably be well into a successful career.
Maybe Doug Hutchinson has a “young soul” or “young spirit.”
BUT THEN AGAIN
Maybe they’ll prove us wrong. Maybe this will be the craziest long-term relationship in the history of a country who doesn’t put that much stock into marriage in the first place.
THINGS I like – July Edition
1. Funky Rings

If you know me at all, you know I have an obsessive with jewelry. I’m a sucker for a simple long necklace/pendant combination. But I’m also pretty into trendy rings. I love metallics, even though I never wear them. I also appreciate a good pearl haha.
2. Liquid Eyeliner

I have just discovered liquid eyeliner and yes, it has changed my life. I am no makeup savant though! I am still learning. For example, I learned the other day from a very reliable source to NEVER put liquid eyeliner on the bottom, ONLY THE TOP. News to me, but very much appreciated!
3. Interesting Architecture

Love love love Design Milk. I could probably spend hours just reading articles and looking all the fancy pictures. Beautiful, isn’t it?
