New Hair
First time I’ve ever gotten any type of highlights. I’ve never dyed my hair before. So this was definitely a learning experience. It took two separate tries in one day because my hair is so dark. Below is a “Before” and “After” shot.
Fact: My hair is so opaque, it eats all other colors. But it turned out great. I have brown/red tinted highlights. It’s subtle, but I think I like it for now. I might be a little more daring next time and go brighter. Who knows!

The Big Leagues
HORRAY!
I am now a big girl producer! Produced my first show for the CW News at 10pm.
I now know what it feels like when you are so stressed out you want to cry and vomit at the same time.
I can’t wait to do this again tomorrow!!
It Made Me Wonder

“It made me wonder how many times we forgive just because we don’t want to lose someone, even if they don’t deserve our forgiveness.”
— Deb Caletti (Honey, Baby, Sweetheart)
“Skinny Love” Bon Iver cover – Birdy
Come on skinny love just last the year
Pour a little salt we were never here
My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my
Staring at the sink of blood and crushed veneer
I tell my love to wreck it all
Cut out all the ropes and let me fall
My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my
Right in the moment this order’s tall
And I told you to be patient
And I told you to be fine
And I told you to be balanced
And I told you to be kind
And in the morning I’ll be with you
But it will be a different kind
And I’ll be holding all the tickets
And you’ll be owning all the fines
Come on skinny love, what happened here?
Suckle on the hope in light brassieres
My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my
Sullen load is full, so slow on the split
Hightlight of my professional career

Made me look it up and everything.

“Love The Way You Lie” – Skylar Grey
I’ve been completely obsessed with Skylar Grey recently. I love her original versions better than the radio edits.
Now there’s gravel in our voices
Glasses shattered from the fight
In this tug of war you always win
Even when I’m right
Cos you feed me fables from your head
With violent words and empty threats
And it’s sick that all these battles are what keeps me satisfied
Just gonna stand there and watch me burn
Well that’s alright because I like the way it hurts
Just gonna stand there and hear me cry
Well that’s alright because I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie
Students and “online culture”
Read this really interesting article from the San Jose Mercury Times about students’ social media presence and this idea of “online culture.”
THE ARTICLE POSES A FEW QUESTIONS:
Does the Internet give students an environment to be completely different than they would be in real life? Is it a gateway for young people to be, as this article suggests, ruder and cruder?
YES AND NO.
For the most part, I don’t think that social media or any Internet activity creates anything “evil.” I don’t think children or young people who exposed to the Internet turn “bad.” Of course, terrible things can be found online, but that doesn’t necessarily create bad behavior (this also applies to watching television or playing violent video games). For example, children who tend to bully others are going to do this in real life as well as online. This generally just depends on the opportunity and convenience.
AND THEN THERE ARE OTHERS
If you are a writer/journalist, you will probably use the Internet to enhance your communication skills. For example, I am an active blogger, and I use social media all the time at work. This also applies to teachers who may use online resources in their courses or professionals who rely on online journals.
IN CONCLUSION
So, no, I don’t think people are different online than they are in real life. I mean, honestly, if you have some kind “act” online and pretend to be some sort of “character,” then this is clearly a self esteem issue. Your thoughts are going to remain the same, whether or not you act on this is up t you.
I believe the Internet is an extension of ourselves. Translation? Haters going to hate, no matter what medium. It just makes you a coward if you can’t say these things to someone’s face.

I’ve found my idol
BEING A MINORITY JOURNALIST IS ROUGH
Being an Asian American journalist? Even rarer. And then a VIETNAMESE-American journalist? Uh, hardly any. Add that with being a female and you’ve got a phenomenon (i.e. Betty Nguyen).
But thankfully I’ve found a new idol to look up to!
Elizabeth Dinh is a Vietnamese American reporter/general assignemtns in Seattle (ABC affiliate). How awesome is she?! She’s born and raised in Texas, but her family is originally from Saigon (a Southern girl through and through, just like me!). I am stoked to find another inspiring Asian American journalist.
According to Wikipedia and her biography page, Dinh went to University of Texas at Arlington and was crowned Miss Asian American Texas 2003-2004. How cool is that?!
The phenomenon that is “PDM”
IF YOU’RE NOT FROM KNOXVILLE
Or are like me and completely oblivious to college/campus culture, even you went to UT for four years and lived here…your entire life, you may know the phenomenon that is “PDM” which stands for “Panty Drop Monday.”
Go ahead, try to look it up like I did. You’ll find no results. In fact, when I tried to look up results on Twitter, it seemed to be just a Knoxville thing.
“PDM” is the first Monday after sorority bids where newly elected members of the Greek community become ambassadors to their organizations and represenstitives of the University of Tennessee.
And by that, they get BUCK WILD and go nuts. Girls love it because they are now part of the “in crowd” they’ve always wanted. Guys love it because UT is a fairly large campus…which leads to a wide selection of young girls just throwing themselves at strangers.
And no, I’m not trying to be catty. Celebrating a fake holiday where young adults (and I mean, LITERALLY straight out of high school) are jumping into the college life with this idea to drink to excess and “party hard” is absurd. Of course, this just doesn’t apply to the Greek system. Clearly, everyone is indulging.

I mean, I am sure it’s all in good fun. But starting your school year off on the wrong foot can have serious consequences. I think I am thankful I did not know what this was when I was in school. I am pretty sure I would have been terrified.
“Moves Like Jagger” – Maroon 5 feat. Christian Aguilera
Just shoot for the stars
If it feels right
And aim for my heart
If you feel like
Can take me away and make it OK
I swear I’ll behave
You wanted control
So we waited
I put on a show
Now I make it
You say I’m a kid
My ego is big
I don’t give a shit
And it goes like this
Fashion post – Ellen Page
Found this on Polyvore, a site that JWood introduced me to. It’s amazing, isn’t it? You can view other’s collection and view each individual piece. You can even put your own favorite pieces together.
Love how this collection is put together. It think it would a great day outfit, sweet and spunky. Love this style.
“Complainte de la Butte” – Rufus Wainwright feat. Martha Wainwright
The stairways up to la butte can make the wretched sigh
while windmill wings of the moulin shelter you and I
On this day in 2010

Facebook has a cute new way of reminding us of the past. I definitely like this reminder, but what if it was a crappy day? I don’t want to think about it, haha.
All my hard work caught on Twitter?
Good Morning Tennessee Anchor Tearsa Smith always likes to bust my chops. And on Wednesday, she caught me sleeping during the 2 minute breaks of GMT.
I didn’t even realize she took it…until my manager Joey comes into the newsroom and says, “So, Linda, I saw this really flattering picture of you this morning.”
You know, me asleep at the teleprompter. Ahahahha
I just rested my head for LITERALLY a minute, but that was enough time for her to snap a picture (and post it on Twitter for all of her 3500+ followers to see). Sigh.

Fashion post – Stuff I Love July Edition

I really dig these Brown Contrast Combat Boots from Forever21 ($35.80). I think they would go great with skinny jeans in the winter with a t-shirt or even a skirt (if I’m feeling dangerous). I am planning on stopping by the mall after my Pole Dancing Fitness class today. Maybe I’ll feel brave enough to buy them after that. haha
